Jennifer Lau, Family and Divorce Lawyer
Jennifer is an experienced Collaborative Family Lawyer and Accredited Family Mediator. She has a warm and welcoming approach, and is committed to helping her clients arrive at a workable resolution of their family law matters.
Education and Experience
Jennifer grew up in Richmond Hill and has been advocating for family law clients since 2007. She received her Honors B.A. in Political Science and Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and her Law Degree from Dalhousie University, where her passion for family law was ignited while working at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic. She returned to York Region to complete her articles with a prominent family law firm. Jennifer’s practice has been focused in family law since her call to the bar.
One of Jennifer’s primary objectives is to ensure that clients feel heard and understood throughout the process. She supports clients in proceeding with negotiations and settlement in a way that reflects their priorities and goals. As one of only a handful of accredited lawyer-mediators in York Region, Jennifer welcomes the opportunity to think creatively with clients in coming up with solutions that work for the family and stay within the bounds of the law.
A Member of Our Community
Jennifer is a leader in the legal community and enjoys giving back. After completing a comprehensive mediation internship with Blue Hills Child and Family Center in Aurora, she was asked to return as a Roster Mediator with the court-connected family mediation service and continues to sit on the roster today.
While at law school, Jennifer was a member of the Gale Cup Competition Team and received a student clerkship with the Hon. Justice LeBlanc of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. She previously served as a member of the Richmond Hill Youth Advisory Committee and the Working Group for the Improvement of Court Processes at the Newmarket Courthouse.
